Our homes are part of us. We spend a great deal of time looking for just the right one. We decorate and redecorate our homes with things we like; they are an expression of our personality. We invite friends and family to our homes and memories are made.
We have house warmings for someone who is moving into a new home. We dedicate new homes. We buy and sell homes. We remodel our homes. We insure our homes- tiny homes and luxury homes.
If I were to knock on the door of the first house we bought and the new owner let me in, I could instantly identify with this place. I could tell stories of good and bad things that happened to me in there; and each room would transport me to another moment in time. My babies were both born there and for this reason I have a sentimental attachment to that home.
I think sentimental attachment is why some people have a hard time moving from their home even when it’s in their best interest.
The Bible talks a lot about this subject. Our bodies and Heaven are both referred to as houses.
When The Lord gives me prophetic dreams, He often uses houses I’ve lived in throughout my life to represent emotions, weaknesses, danger, safety, etc… Why? Because houses are a very important part of our lives here on Earth. But what about when we die?
We need to choose the eternal home for our spirit now.
Will you choose Heaven as your eternal home, or will you choose Hell? Contrary to popular belief, God doesn’t make that choice for us. God does not send people to Hell or Heaven. As a matter of fact, His preference is that everyone go to Heaven.
“But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.”
2 Peter 3:8-10
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
How do we get to Heaven? How do we choose Heaven as our forever home?
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”
John 14:1-3
And you know the way to where I am going.” “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
John 14:4-6
So simply talk to Jesus just like you would talk to a trusted friend. Here are some guidelines from the Bible about how to begin your relationship with Jesus by accepting His free gift of salvation:
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
1 John 1:9
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Romans 10:9
For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
Romans 10:10
Saved from what?
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23
The punishment from sin and an eternity separated from God. Yes, our bodies may die, but our spirits live forever.
When is the right time to make this eternal choice?
For God says,
“At just the right time, I heard you.
On the day of salvation, I helped you.”Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:2
My prayer is that you take the time right now to make that choice. We don’t know how much time we have here on this earth. We are not promised a certain number of days. Life seems more uncertain now that it ever has before. When we have taken care of that eternal choice we can live life free of fear because we know that no matter what happens to our earthly home (our body) our spirit will live forever in our heavenly home with God.
“Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 5:8
